Next, I needed to learn the machines as they are a little different than mine back home. I bought multi-function sewing machines, they're all metal and very durable. I practiced sewing on them for a few days and felt much more comfortable.
Lastly, the most important element, the girls. Rose, my partner in this club here in country, helps run the school we partner with and spoke to some girls who would be interested in the club. She told me that she had 2-3 girls who wanted to join. Success! There's an interest in the club! :)
So fast forward to today. Rose has spoke to me this morning and said that the girls would be coming today, but failed to tell me what time. So I set up our station and began preparing. Not knowing what time they would come, I took a little nap to help liven up! Lunch time came, and just as I sat down, Rose came in and said she was here. I finished my lunch then came into the sitting room where the sewing machines were, and there they were, 4 young girls sitting in the plastic blue chairs waiting for me. I'm not sure why, but I was surprised to see them there!
The four girls were named Linda, Irene, Susan and Emily. They were so eager to learn! I taught them how to thread the top of the machine, the bobbin, and other basics. They loved sewing! We worked on straight stitches and reversing. I gave them small pieces of material and they practiced and made small doll clothes. They impressed me with the creativity they had! Then we worked on making a few place mats for more practicing. They did a great job for their first time sewing.
The girls come tomorrow morning at 9am...gotta prepare a project for them. Keep this little club in your prayers:)
